Versatile Group builds the instruments that measure foundry sand, the online systems that control it on the plant, and the software that keeps the record. Two companies and four platforms, held together by one idea: a casting is only as good as the sand it was made in.

Versatile Equipments

Foundry sand testing & process control

Laboratory instruments, online testing and control systems, calibration kits and test sieves for foundry sand. Everything is designed and built at the plant in Kolhapur, and the high precision parts inside are machined in house by a sister company on the same estate rather than bought from a job shop. The range runs to more than 160 products with the spares to keep them working, and the company holds ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949.

Plant data & process modelling

Sahas works at the line side. A unit in the plant reads the machines already running there, and the software above it keeps a working model of the process. Its flagship, Sahas Forge, runs a foundry pack today, down to a consultant that answers questions about a plant’s own heats in plain language. Sahas electronics sit inside the group’s Black Box automated testing cabinet.

02 Platforms

Four ways the group keeps the record.

Each was written for a job that was being done on paper. All four are reached from a browser or a phone, and customers are given their own access.

Customer data stays with the customer. Nothing is shared across the group.

Calibration & certificates

Every instrument carries a QR sticker. Scanning it shows whether the calibration is current, what it was checked against and the certificate itself. A re-calibration can be requested from the same page.

Casting defect logging

Rejections are logged where they are found: two photographs, a box drawn round the defect, and a tap on what it is. The tiles are pictures rather than words, and the app keeps working where there is no signal.

Machine data

A small unit wired to the sand lab instruments sends their readings up on its own, so a shift’s results can be looked at from an office or a phone rather than copied into a register. Hundreds of machines and sand plants are connected today.

Plant model & casting traceability

The controls already on the line are read as they are, the process is held as a working model, and any casting can be walked back to the mould and the heat it came from. What the rejected parts have in common is looked for, and the answer comes back in plain language with the readings it was drawn from. Built to ISO 23247.

03 What we buy

The group is a buyer as well as a supplier.

Metal for the instruments the group builds, and sand, bentonite and resins for the sand work. All of it is bought through the year rather than in one season. Foundries, forge shops, stockists, and sand and binder suppliers are welcome to register.

Castings

Grey and ductile iron, machined and unmachined, for instrument bodies and for the assemblies built around them.

Forgings

Carbon and alloy steel forgings for powertrain and fluid power parts, including work that is induction hardened afterwards.

Raw materials

Bar, plate and sheet, and the special alloys the harder jobs call for.

Foundry raw materials

Silica sand, bentonite and resins, and the additives that go with them.
